Bundle up, Oklahoma!
Snow is making its way into the state today and into tomorrow.
A winter storm may bring record-breaking snowfall, slick roads, and freezing temperatures.
With snow expected to blanket much of the state, including the potential to surpass Oklahoma City’s Jan. 9 record of two inches set in 1977.
What is the weather like on Thursday?
The storm timeline begins this morning, with a mix of rain, sleet, and snow likely.
While temperatures around freezing might initially cause some melting, the transition to all snow is expected by late morning as cooler air takes over.
Snow bands will intensify in the afternoon and evening, bringing more snowfall.
The snow could be moderately heavy at times, but during the day, it will mostly accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Roads may stay mostly clear during the day due to near-freezing temperatures and sunlight.
However, after sunset, temperatures will fall into the 20s, causing snow and ice to freeze on roads, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Expect some slick spots Thursday night into Friday morning.
Snowfall will continue overnight, tapering off to flurries by early tomorrow morning.
Totals across the state range from one to six inches.
What is the weather like this week?
By Friday afternoon, temperatures should rise above freezing, helping to alleviate slick roads.
Until then, layer up and stay prepared for continued cold.
The nine-day forecast hints at a gradual warm-up, with highs reaching the 40s and potentially hitting the 50-degree mark by early next week.
