We are tracking our next strong cold front! This next one will likely be the strongest one of the summer so far.

It will bring a true fall feel. Some data has highs that are more October-like than late August. Rain and storm chances increase as the two air masses collide next week.

What will the weather be like on Thursday?

A few early morning showers look possible north and west of the metro, but the heat will return this afternoon.

For most of the state, highs will remain in the 90s and low hundreds. Some parts will max out in the high 80s.

It will be hottest in southwest Oklahoma, where temperatures and heat indexes are expected to climb to dangerous levels.

There is a chance for rain on Friday, mostly in the panhandle and northwest part of the state.

Unfortunately, the relief doesn't make it into the southwest. The drought and extreme heat will ramp up the wildfire risk.

The dangerous heat will build back in briefly for the weekend.

  1. -HYDRATION is key in preventing heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water or electrolyte replacement drinks several hours before and during long exposure to the summer heat.
  2. Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if working outdoors, and take plenty of shade breaks.
  3. No alcohol or caffeine.
  4. If you do not have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space (such as libraries or malls) during the day.
  5. Don’t limit your use of air conditioning.
  6. Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.
  7. Keep a cellphone on you at all times when outdoors, including walking, running daily errands, yard work or sports and physical activity.
