Heavy Rainfall, Flooding Strands Residents, Causes Damage In Oklahoma Panhandle

Heavy rainfall in parts of the Oklahoma panhandle has left residents stranded by high waters, Texas County Emergency Management said.

Texas County Emergency Manager Tonde' Christian said certain areas of the county experienced significant rainfall, with Hooker receiving 6 inches and Guymon seeing 4.5 inches of rain fall around the town.

Christian said numerous roadways in the county are impassable at this time, and that power outages are also a concern, with power lines being reported down along Highway 64 near the Beaver County line.

According to Texas County Emergency Management, the Texas County swift water rescue team is checking houses in the area to see if anyone is trapped or stranded, and also making water rescues from vehicles.

Around 30 people have been rescued so far, including a family of eight, county emergency management said.

The Texas County Activity Center is open for people needing a place to stay.
