Alex Cameron, Director of Statewide Special Content Projects

Alex Cameron joined the NEWS 9 team in 1995 as a general assignment reporter. In 1996, Alex began anchoring at the station, initially with NEWS 9 This Morning, and then followed in 1998 by the weekend evening newscasts. In 1999, Alex began a nearly 10-year-long stint of co-anchoring the 4 p.m. news, as well as reporting daily for NEWS 9 at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.

In June 2009, he decided to leave the anchor desk and move back to full-time reporting, accepting a promotion to Director of Statewide Special Content Projects for Griffin Communications. In this position, he leads a group of investigative reporters — the Oklahoma Impact Team — in focusing on issues that Oklahomans across the state tell us are important to their lives. 

In 14 years of general assignment reporting, Cameron most often reported news from the Capitol and City Hall in Oklahoma City, but he also covered breaking news as well as many stories on local war heroes. He especially enjoyed the stories on World War II veterans (his father served in Patton's 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge), resulting in recognition from the state's Veterans Administration and the opportunity to participate in the dedication of the USS Oklahoma Memorial ceremonies at Pearl Harbor in 2007.

Reporting for NEWS 9 has taken Cameron around the world: to Bosnia in 1996 to document the brave work of the Oklahoma-based 3rd Herd; to Denver in 1997 to cover the trial of Timothy McVeigh, as well as, in 2001, the OSU plane crash tragedy; to Washington, D.C. in 2005 to report on the base realignment and closure process; and, more recently, to New Orleans and Seattle to follow Oklahoma City's acquisition of an NBA franchise.

Cameron grew up on the East Coast, living in both Maryland and New Jersey. He attended Bucknell University and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He later received a master's degree in journalism at New York University where his thesis earned him the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences prestigious College Television Award in 1988. He started his broadcasting career in radio in Delaware, where he also landed his first television job.

A student of the German language and culture, Cameron is interested in history of all types and eras. He also enjoys running, volleyball, and golf. He is a proud graduate of Leadership OKC (class XXIV) and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Ann, a Columbia, Missouri native, say Oklahoma is home now, and both believe in the importance of investing in their community in any way possible.  They live in Edmond with their daughter Sarah, son Scott, and a chocolate lab named Bear.
