OKLAHOMA CITY -- The body of shooting suspect Rodrigo Salizar was recovered from Lake Overholser on Thursday after his car plummeted into the water, authorities said.
The 41-year-old, a manager at Las Fajitas in Yukon, was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute shooting with his ex-wife, 37-year-old Magali Salizar, firing several shots toward her.
"I told him to stop, he looked at me and kind of smiled and kept on shooting," witness Ken Barboza said. "I told the kids to run."
Magali suffered head trauma and a bullet to her leg during the dispute and was taken to the hospital, authorities said.
Following the argument and alleged assault, Rodrigo left Yukon, traveling north of County Line Road. He was not being chased by the police.
Rodrigo, traveling at high speeds, drove his car into Lake Overholser after shooting himself in his head, police said.
"I heard a car at high speed coming down through here and heard it hit that pole," witness Ron Roddy said. "Whenever I turned around to look, the car was in the air."
The vehicle quickly took in water as witnesses mounted a rescue effort, among them, Kyle Grace, a vacationing firefighter from Florida.
"A couple of other people jumped in, swam over to the car and busted in the back window, and try to reach down for somebody in there, but we couldn't reach," Grace said.
The vehicle was launched into the lake, landing 15 to 30 feet from the shore, police said.
Police said Magali was listed in good condition after the shooting, and was soon released from the hospital.
