A record label representative says Tony Joe White, the country bluesman and hit songwriter behind such successes as "Polk Salad Annie" and "Rainy Night in Georgia," has died. He was 75.  

Tropical Storm Gordon moved quickly Monday across the eastern Gulf of Mexico as the wind strength increased to 60 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. 

Gulf Coast residents scrambled to finalize storm preparations as Hurricane Nate raced swiftly over the central Gulf of Mexico on Saturday, gaining added strength as forecasters said it would smash into the U.S. coast during the night.
