OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City firefighters have contained a large grass fire that was being pushed by strong winds toward several homes.

The fire started Friday afternoon near the intersection of S.E. 149th Street and Air Depot.  It burned 300 acres and is still smoldering.  Fire crews from several cities joined the Oklahoma City Fire Department to battle the flames.

According to fire officials, the grass fire burned dangerously close to some oil wells.

"We have oil and gas inspectors on scene," said Battalion Chief Richard Kelley. "We have shut down five oil wells to make sure that's safe. Right now, we're investigating the black smoke."

Fire crews determined the black smoke was nothing serious. The flames did damage some waste water pipes. No injuries were reported.
