YUKON, Oklahoma – Yukon police said a patient was taken into custody after discharging a starter pistol inside a hospital room.
Integris said a Mercy ambulance brought in the patient to Integris Canadian Valley Hospital at 1201 Health Center Pkwy. Paramedics didn't realize he had a gun on him and it accidentally discharged in the hospital.
Integris spokeswoman Brooke Cayot said the man had been detained by El Reno police for trespassing, but was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains. Cayot said the man was combative and was placed in a room by himself while security was notified.
The patient was carrying a starter pistol and it went off while he was alone in the hospital room. The pistol was found on the floor. Starter pistols, which fire blanks, are not illegal but they are not allowed on hospital property.
The man was tased by authorities after he fired the shot. No one was injured or hit by the shot.
The man's name has not been released. He will likely face charges for the incident.
