OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation revealed Wednesday its newest crime fighting tool: A mobile investigation unit.
OSBI showed off the Mobile Analysis Center (MAC) during a news conference at headquarters in Oklahoma City. The MAC will travel to crime scenes and help agents investigate complex crimes while staying out in the field.
"For a number of the years, the OSBI has had a tremendous need when conducting criminal investigations in the field, particularly in investigations that require on-site, analytical analysis," said OSBI Director Stan Florence. "So we're very happy. This is a great opportunity for us to utilize this valuable tool."
Florence says the MAC unit provides everything agents would find at OSBI headquarters. It's a self-contained, self-sustaining unit that runs on a generator. The unit has satellite capabilities, and is equipped with hardware and software needed to receive, analyze, and disseminate raw intelligence data.
Florence says the mobile unit will increase effectiveness out in the field. He says the unit will also be a backup in case there's a problem – such as a natural disaster – at OSBI Headquarters.
