OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City police sergeant accused of sexually abusing children has resigned.
Sgt. Maurice Martinez is charged with 37 counts, including the alleged sexual abuse of his adopted son and other foster children. Other felony counts include possessing child pornography and threatening a witness.
Martinez has been on paid administrative leave since January.
Martinez's attorneys held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to announce his resignation.
During the conference, one of Martinez's attorneys says that after nearly 19 years of service, officer Martinez maintained his innocence, however, he doesn't think it would be fair for the citizens to continue to pay him while he is in jail waiting the trial.
