OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police are looking for an experimental helicopter stolen early Tuesday morning from a construction company in south Oklahoma City.
The owner of Stone and Stucco Company at 8402 N. Interstate 35 Service Road reported the helicopter stolen at 5 a.m. Oklahoma City police spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow says the thieves used some kind of equipment to move the helicopter and load it onto a trailer. There were tracks in the ground at the crime scene where the helicopter had been dragged.
About an hour after it was reported stolen, a police officer reported seeing the helicopter on a trailer at a Holiday Inn Express at Interstate 40 and S. Meridian Avenue. According to Wardlow, the officer thought it was unusual, but he didn't know the helicopter was stolen until he received a message about it. By that time, it was gone.
The owner of the construction company says the experimental helicopter has an open cockpit design and 20-foot rotor span. It also has red seats and blue tail rudders.
