NORMAN, Oklahoma—The University of Oklahoma has a new addition to the football roster in Kellen Jones who is now enrolled at OU after leaving the University of Michigan last month.
The 6-foot-1 linebacker from Houston was highly recruited out of high school and he signed with Michigan in February, but changed his mind since then.
Last month at the Big Ten media days, Michigan coach Brad Hoke told the media that Jones was "no longer enrolled at the University of Michigan" but did not give any more details on the situation.
During his senior season at St. Pius X High School he amassed 110 tackles, with 32 for loss and eight sacks.
Multiple reports state that one of the reasons Jones came to OU was because of the strong relationship he built with defensive coordinator Brent Venables during recruitment.
Regardless of the reasons that brought him to Oklahoma, the Sooners are glad to have freshman who Rivals.com rated as the nation's No. 29 inside linebacker.
Jones is currently with the Oklahoma football team, but is unable to practice until cleared by the NCAA. He is currently regarded as a walk-on, but could earn a scholarship in the future and he will have four seasons of eligibility.
Oklahoma opens the season Sept. 3 against the University of Tulsa at 7 p.m.
