DALLAS – Former Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray has passed his physical and participated in his first practice with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.
The Cowboys' website reports that Murray, who was sidelined before training camp began with a hamstring injury, passed his physical and was cleared to practice on Monday.
Although Murray's injury has kept him out of all training camp practice, the Cowboys' third round draft pick is immediately in the mix at running back along with Tashard Choice who was also recently cleared after he strained his calf. Both Murray and Choice will compete for the backup role behind Dallas starter Felix Jones.
Last year at OU, Murray started in all 14 games for the Sooners and racked up 3,685 yards rushing and 1,571 through the air. Murray also owns OU's career all-purpose yards record with 6,498 yards and is the career touchdown holder with 64 and in career receiving yards by a RB with 1,512.
The Cowboys have two more preseason games before the regular season kicks off Sunday, Sept. 11 on the road against the New York Jets at 7:20 p.m.
