Oklahoma Report Card Against Texas

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma came into the Red River Rivalry well prepared and coasted to a 55-17 win over Texas, earning high marks from News9's Dean Blevins in everything but special teams.

The Sooners' defense was particularly impressive, outscoring Texas by itself with a school record three touchdowns. It forced a total of five turnovers, and Blevins said the unit was the most prepared he's seen.

The offense also earned high marks, despite a lackluster showing from the running game. Quarterback Landry Jones torched the Texas secondary and had more than 300 passing yards at halftime.

The Sooners' special teams were another matter. They allowed a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in the first half that went right down the middle of the field, with the kicker being the only player in position to make a tackle.

OU allowed a second kickoff return for a touchdown later in the game, but that was negated by a Texas penalty. On the bright side, Michael Hunnicutt made both of his field goal attempts, though they both were short when OU stalled in the red zone.
