Firefighters extinguished a fire near an elementary school in northwest Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon.
Crews responded to the fire at a building near Sequoyah Elementary School, located at 2400 N.W. 36th Street. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it reached the school area.
According to the fire department, the building was not in use and was going to be torn down Saturday. However, construction workers were using cutting torches inside the building, and accidentally started the fire.
Fire officials said due the high winds Saturday, the fire spread quickly throughout the building.
No injuries were reported, and there were no reports of damage to other school properties.
