Freezing Fog Leads To Dangerous Road Conditions In Metro

EMSA responded two more than two dozen injury accidents Tuesday morning as drivers ran into thick fog and icy spots across Oklahoma City.

At least 26 wrecks involved injuries. At least two people had to be rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

There were slick and hazardous conditions on roadways across central and northeastern Oklahoma because of the freezing fog. Dozens of drivers hit back ice and slick spots, especially on overpasses, and lost control.

On Interstate 240 westbound and Eastern, a driver lost control, slid off the road and ended upside down on an embankment. On the road above, a semi-truck jackknifed. Both drivers were not seriously hurt.

Captain Chris West with the Highway Patrol said drivers needed to slow down, traveling much slower than the speed limit. In fact, he said Oklahoma law dictates drivers slow down in hazardous weather conditions.

News 9 Meteorologist Jed Castles reported the freezing fog advisory will last through mid-morning.
