Governor Lifts Statewide Burn Ban On All Oklahoma Counties

Gov. Mary Fallin lifted Thursday the statewide burn ban currently in effect for 33 Oklahoma counties.

The governor said cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and recent rain have significantly lowered the wildfire risk.

Although the statewide burn ban has been lifted, State Forester George Geissler encouraged Oklahomans to remain cautious while cooking outdoors, burning trash, setting campfires, or participating in any activity that uses an open flame.

"Even with the rains we have received, drought conditions are still plaguing some counties," said Geissler. "Everyone should be weather aware and consider the conditions before they do any activity which could spark a wildfire."

Cimarron County is the only county that remains under a burn ban. County commissioners are keeping the ban in place through at least November 1.
