Police say the seventh grader brought a knife to school with him and stabbed an eighth grader in the lip during lunch on Monday. The school's resource officer saw the incident and stopped it before it got worse. No other students were injured.
The stabbing has many parents concerned, saying school leaders never contacted them after the incident.
"We don't necessarily have a communication policy. It is really on a case by case basis. In this instance involved two students who we know and knew at the time that it was an issue that between those two students," said Oklahoma City Public Schools Spokesperson Tierney Tinnin. "The school resource officer, the principal, the assistant principal and other staff members responded immediately in the way they were supposed to it in no way disrupted the school day."
Some parents say it does affect other students.
"Things like this happen all the time I'm just upset they didn't notify the parents," said Roosevelt parent Misty Combs.
The mere thought of violence at a middle school brought one mother to tears.
"If they can get a knife in there, like I said, who can say they can't get a gun in there," said Roosevelt parent Ruth Wilson.
The district says they will use the incident as an opportunity to address security concerns. The student accused was arrested and then disciplined.
