Edmond police arrest a man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and commanding his pit bull to attack her.

Officers responded to the domestic call at 3609 Baird Drive in Edmond on Tuesday, November 13. They were soon diverted, though, to the Tinker Federal Credit Union parking lot at 33rd Street and Bryant Avenue where the victim was located.

According to an incident report, the woman told police her boyfriend, 32-year-old Christopher Reid Birchmier, beat and strangled her. She also claims he commanded his pit bull, Butter, to attack her.

The victim said she was able to escape out of the house, only to be caught in the front yard. She claims that is when Birchmier commanded Butter to attack her. The victim said she flagged down someone driving by, who picked her up and drove her to the credit union parking lot.

The victim was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital with multiple cuts to her face, strangulation marks on her neck and bite wounds to her right thigh and left calf.

Officers arrested Birchmier on complaints of aggravated assault and battery. Butter, the dog, is currently under rabies quarantine at the Edmond Animal Welfare Center. The fate of the dog is unknown at this time.
