Firefighters extinguished a fire at a Midwest City business Tuesday night.
According to the fire department, crews responded to the fire just after 7 p.m. at American Legion, located at 8608 N.E. 10th in Midwest City.
The firefighters arrived at the scene and saw flames coming from the west of the business, that's where a large heating and air unit is located.
Due to a metal pitched roof being added to the building on top of the original rock and tar flat roof, crews had to cut a hole in the upper side of the West end to extinguish the fire, according to fire officials. The fire was trapped between the original flat roof and new pitched roof, but was eventually fully extinguished.
Fire officials say the fire has caused about $50,000 to $70,000 worth of damage to the business.
All four people inside the business made it out safely, and no one was injured.
The occupants did say this was the first time they turned the heater on this season, and they initially smelled the normal light burning smell, and called 911 after the smell did not go away, but instead grew stronger and visible smoke began to appear.
