A former teacher at McLoud Elementary School has pleaded no contest, and a former professor at Oklahoma Baptist University has pleaded guilty, to several charges of child sexual exploitation and molestation after lewd pictures of young girls surfaced.
"She would send these pictures to him he would request certain poses he would request certain children be posed certain ways and then she would do it," said Richard Smothermon, the District Attorney for Pottawatomie County who was ready to bring this case before a jury.
Kimberly Crain and Gary Doby appeared in a Pottawatomie County courtroom Wednesday morning. Doby waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to 18 counts of sexual exploitation of a child under 12, one count of conspiracy, and one count of lewd molestation. The judge sentenced him to life in prison. He will be committed to the sexual offenders' unit at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. The judge told him he should have a lot of time to think about what he'd done.
"He's serving a life sentence which means he will not even be eligible for parole until he is 104 years old," said Smothermon. " I don't think he's going to make it. Mr. Doby is every bit the definition of a pedophile they always share their material. so once it got to him, there's no telling where it went."
Prosecutors say Crain, a former third-grade teacher, took nude and half-nude photos of more than a dozen young girls in her classroom. She then shared the pictures with Doby, who was working as a professor in Pennsylvania at the time. The students knew Doby as "Uncle G," and prosecutors say Crain would make the children speak with him via Skype during class.
Crain and Doby met at OBU back in the 1980s when she was a student and he was an adjunct professor. Both were arrested in December 2011 after a student told her parents about the lewd photos.
"It's because those children testified with such courage at the preliminary hearing that these defendants I believe pled!" said Smothermon.

Crain also waived her right to a jury trial Wednesday, and pleaded no contest to the same charges as Doby, plus an additional 11 counts of possession of juvenile child pornography. She cried in court as the charges against her were read.
The judge told her she could be sentenced to at least 25 years in prison. Her sentencing has been scheduled for March 22.
"It doesn't make much of a difference as far as legally the judge at her sentencing hearing is still going to find her guilty the only difference is he stood up and took responsibility," explained the DA.
"She didn't. The great thing about this is that the children don't have to testify now, we are going to have a sentencing hearing, we will call witnesses, we will not call any of the children."
Several of the children's family members were also in the courtroom. They hugged each other after the hearing, but chose not to make any comment. Many have a civil suit against Doby, Crain, and the McCloud School district.
