OKC Men, Edmond Teen Accused Of Trying To Shoot Texas Trooper

Two Oklahoma City men and an Edmond 16 year old are in custody following a high-speed chase and 10-hour standoff in Texas.

Myron McDonald Jr., 22, and Christopher DeShawn Johnson, 24, are both booked in the Mitchell County, Texas jail. The teen, whose name is not being released, is being held in a juvenile detention center.

Abilene CBS affiliate KTAB-TV reports the standoff started shortly after the men allegedly attempted to shoot a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper during a traffic stop Monday along Interstate 20 between Abilene and Midland.

According to media reports, the trooper stopped the Oklahoma-registered SUV after it was spotted going more than 100 mph on the interstate. During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle fired at least three shots at the trooper and then fled the area.

The trooper chased the SUV while shots were still being fired at him. The trooper was not hurt during the incident.

The chase ended after the three abandoned the vehicle and hid inside a Colorado City, Texas, home for nearly 10 hours. All three were taken into custody early Tuesday morning.

"The Texas Rangers had their S.R.T. team -- which is a group of Texas Rangers with specialized equipment -- that was very useful in this situation to have a peaceful resolution," Senior DPS Trooper Sparky Dean told KTAB-TV.

McDonald and Johnson are charged with attempted capital murder, and felon in possession of a firearm. McDonald is also charged with evading arrest.

The teen was taken to the Taylor County Juvenile Detention Center in Abilene. Charges against him are still pending.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident and their findings will be presented to the Mitchell County District Attorney's Office. McDonald and Johnson both have criminal records in Oklahoma including gun violence.
