Well January 2013 has already come and gone, so I figure a brief review is in order. The main topic of course is the persistent drought. Good news is that January was the first month we saw above average statewide rainfall. YAY!! Across the state the average rainfall for January 2013 was 1.6", which is .2" above normal. This is the first time since April of 2012 that we have come out with a bit of a surplus. But to put this into perspective, January ended up being the 45th wettest. Nowhere near recorded breaking rainfall, which is what we need. Also, keep in mind this is a statewide average. There were many locations, especially in western and northwestern Oklahoma that came out with below average totals. Here in OKC we came ended January at .25" below normal.
Temperature wise, the average statewide temperature in January was 40°. That is 3.9° above average. So another warm month for us, but a new month is upon us. Here's to a wet and cool February Oklahoma!
