Power to residential and commercial customers in the area of 71st and Memorial was interrupted for over an hour after a hit-and-run crash damaged a power pole. A vehicle struck a pole supporting power lines that cross Memorial then fled the scene.

It happened just after 2 a.m.

Though the pole didn't require repairs, the line was severed and fell to the busy intersection below. Police blocked traffic at East 73rd Street until AEP-PSO line workers could restore the power at about 3:20 a.m.

It was a cold evening to ride the bucket truck up to repair the lines.

One of the men repairing the line said it was the second repair needed in the area that night, with another outage caused by a car wreck at 45th and Memorial.
