Former OU football coach Chuck Fairbanks has died at the age of 79.
Fairbanks coached the Sooners from 1967-72. During his time at the school, the team saw a resurgence in domination on the field and also the implementation of the wishbone-T offense. His successor Barry Switzer took over for Fairbanks in 1973 when the coach went on to become the head coach of the New England Patriots.
Fairbanks succeeded Jim Mackenzie in 1967 when Mackenzie suddenly died of a heart attack.
Fairbanks died in Scottsdale, Arizona following a battle with brain cancer.
