Severe storms rolling through the metro area have downed power poles and caused some damage, with thousands of residents also reporting power outages, Saturday night.

High winds caused power poles to crash down onto the road in between Memorial Rd. and Penn. Ave. Some drivers, including a police officer, were trapped in their vehicles when power lines fell on top of them. Oklahoma City firefighters responded to the scene. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Quail Springs Mall also had to be evacuated because of power outages. It was reported that some mall patrons were trapped in an elevator because of the outages and had to be rescued.

Over 2,600 metro residents are without power as of Sunday morning, because of the storms.

Saturday night, approximately 5,600 OG&E customers in Piedmont reported outages, nearly 2,500 in Warr Acres and just over 5,000 in north Oklahoma City, with sporadic reports in other OKC suburbs.

A lightning strike caused a house fire in Yukon as well. No one was injured in the fire, and crews were able to contain the damage mostly to the garage attic of the home.

The Oklahoma City Police Department has closed Penn. Ave. from 160th St. all the way to the Kilpatrick Turnpike because of downed power lines.

OG&E crews are working to get power restored at this time.
