Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater is commending the actions of a Midwest City Police Captain, who thwarted a would-be child kidnapper inside a Wal-Mart store last Monday.

Police say 37-year-old Sammie Wallace grabbed a woman's 2-year-old daughter, and told stunned onlookers he was going to kill the girl with a knife.

Prater sent Midwest City police a letter a few days ago and said Capt. David Huff "made every attempt to resolve the incident peacefully."

"Huff delayed his use of deadly force until Wallace gave him no other option. Huff's actions were not only justified, they were necessary," Prater wrote.

Police say when Wallace started counting down to when he was going to kill the girl, Huff stepped towards Wallace and fatally shot him in the head.
