The Bethany and Warr Acres police departments are warning residents to be on guard against some crooks pretending to be OG&E employees.
A news release from Warr Acres Police says an elderly resident living in the 5300 block of N. Hammond was approached the week of June 23. A man identifying himself as a "utility company" employee asked the victim to escort him to the backyard because he had to clear some tree branches from power lines.
After the man left, the victim noticed several items had been stolen from the home, including a gun. The suspect is a white or Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 210 pounds. He was driving a white Chevy S10 pickup truck.
Bethany Police had a similar burglary near N.W. 60th and Rockwell. A man claiming to be with OG&E asked the victim to escort him into her backyard so he could check on some underground power lines. When the woman returned to her house, she noticed several items were missing.
Police say if someone comes to your house claiming to be with a utility company, make them wait outside while you check with that company. Police also say if you aren't comfortable with the situation, immediately call your local police department.
