An Oklahoma Highway Patrol aircraft has crashed in Pottawatomie County, Friday evening.

A spokesperson for OHP confirmed the crash with News 9 just after 7 p.m. It happened near State Highway 9 and Bethel Rd.

Authorities say the OHP plane was assisting the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office when the aircraft experienced some sort of malfunction and crashed.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office tells News 9 they were assisting OHP in the search for a crash victim that left the scene of an accident at Hwy 9 and Bethel Rd. OHP called in their airplane to assist in the search because they weren't sure if the driver involved in the accident was injured.

The pilot was ejected from the aircraft and was found a short distance from the scene of the crash. He was taken by medical helicopter to OU Medical Center in OKC in serious condition.

The victim from the crash that prompted the search was found and was also taken to the hospital. That person's condition is unknown.
