A dog apparently trying to protect his property was stabbed in the face. Now, News 9 has learned that stabbing may be connected to a sting of other crimes near N.W. 42th and Western.
It was around 2 a.m. Friday when someone tried to kick in Riley Burns' front door.
"I was asleep whenever he kicked the door in and I woke up screaming and my boyfriend Brandon got up and just ran outside," Burns recalled.
The suspect jumped a nearby fence likely not knowing what was waiting on the other side: six shop dogs who apparently don't appreciate intruders in the middle of the night.
"Whoever it was, I'm sure they got a nice little souvenir: puncture wounds, a few of them. Not enough," said Jeff Beck, who owns Beck automotive and the dogs.
Unfortunately, Lucy, a Mastiff/Sharpei mix was wounded as well. She was stabbed just under her eye by a huge knife. Her owner didn't find her until Friday morning.
Police were able to gather blood samples from the fence. A blood trail would lead across the street to Sipango. Where workers say a man who was bleeding approached them and tried to attack them with another knife.
"He pulled a knife on them, threatened them, they ran inside, we had to call police," said Sipango owner Patrick Hyde.
Lucy, meanwhile, was taken into surgery and was very lucky. The knife barely missed her eye and her brain. She is going to be fine.
"The dog will make a full recovery and hopefully the perpetrator will not," Beck said.
Hyde said they called police and officers responded. But there is no record the man was ever arrested.
