Mayes says he didn't intend for his entire two hours to be devoted to the SI story, but other former players kept calling in. Mayes says he couldn't sleep last night, anxious about the story, but he says the experience portrayed in the article is all hearsay and was certainly not his experience.

At the same time, he realizes there will be fresh, perhaps more solid material released on Wednesday.

Mayes had more former players call in than he could get on the air. The former players he didn't hear from, however, were any of those quoted in the article.
