From the traditional favorites like corn dogs and turkey legs to the bizarre – like cricket pizza – there is something for everyone's taste at the Tulsa State Fair.
The Tulsa City-County Health Department is keeping a close eye on the cuisine to make sure fair-goers can indulge safely.
There are more than 250 food booths inspected and expected to follow State food regulations.
Vendors are educated on how to properly handle food and hand washing techniques.
Kendra Wise with the health department said the inspections start before the fair opens and the agency conducts routine inspections throughout the week.
"As of right now, we've had a pretty smooth operation," Wise said. "Everyone is really easy to work with, and they are willing to do the things that need to be done to make sure the food they are serving is safe."
Whether you find it gourmet or grotesque, cricket pizza got the OK from the health department.
But the vendor did have to get the crickets from an approved source.
