The Edmond police department mourns the loss of one of their own.
Wednesday night, Detective Matt Terry, 41, suffered what appears at this time some type of cardiac event at his house. He did not survive.
Terry served 19 years for the City of Edmond and the Edmond Police Department as a patrol officer and detective. He began his career with the police department in June of 1994 in the Patrol Division and was promoted to Detective in 2004.
Terry leaves behind his wife and teenage daughter.
"There are no words to express our shock and sadness in losing Detective Terry. He was the source of a lot of laughter inside the department walls," according to a statement released by the Edmond Police Department.
All city flags will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Matt Terry.
Terry was the 2007 Elks Officer of the Year, recipient of the Medal of Valor in 2002 and was the Edmond Police Department Employee of the month in April 2000, March 2002 and January 2007.
