Many Oklahomans would say they feel like Gary England's been part of the family. For 41 years, we've counted on him to tell us if we need an umbrella, sunscreen or if we need to go to our safe spot.

There's another side to Oklahoma weather pioneer. He shares a bold move he made the first week on the job at KWTV, the most notable changes in forecasting in the past 40 years and why he started wearing tennis shoes with his suits.

"I've always worn cowboy boots all my life and some of those storm events I'd be up there and when it was over, I could hardly walk," Gary recalled. "So finally I shifted to tennis shoes. They look a little odd. You got a really nice black suit on, great tie and white shirt and you got those tennis shoes on. One night they shot it kind of wide. That was one of the nights I trended on Twitter because they were talking about the tennis shoes."

Gary's wife, Mary, shares a moment from the historic 2013 storm season that's never happened before.

And tonight, Gary was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, in a ceremony held at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.

"Being honored with the hall of fame is the top of the deal. It's the top of the stack. I just love it. It's exciting. It's a very small group inducted into the hall of fame over the years," said Gary. "Not that many [get into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame] so I'm being inducted in a group that has a continuing responsibility to the people of Oklahoma."
