A massive low pressure system, combined with arctic air, will slam into Oklahoma later this week.

A Winter Storm Watch is already out and will take effect Thursday into Friday. The leading edge of the arctic air will arrive in Oklahoma Tuesday night into Wednesday. Wednesday looks dry with highs in the mid 40s.

Precipitation is expected to begin early Thursday as rain transitions to freezing rain, then sleet, and eventually to snow by early Friday. Roads will deteriorate throughout the day Thursday, becoming slick and hazardous by Friday morning, especially along and south of I-44.

High temperatures will remain below freezing for several days, so busted water pipes will be a concern. Lows will bottom out in the single digits by Saturday morning with dangerous wind chills 10 to 15 degrees below zero.
