Students affected by the devastating May 20 tornado in May receive some holiday cheer and a surprise visit from Santa Claus.
The jolly old elf visited on Thursday students from Briarwood and Plaza Towers Elementary schools. The EF5 tornado destroyed both schools, and killed seven students at Plaza Towers.
Santa, with the help of members of Elevate Church in Moore, gave a special gift to each student. Briarwood principal Shelley McMillin says it was a nice surprise because this is the first Christmas after the destructive storm.
"A lot of them lost their Christmas trees, Christmas ornaments, memories that they had," said McMillin. "So this year is a rebuilding year, and so hopefully this will be one of the memories they will take with them and start new and fresh."
