A national wind expert said while below-ground tornado shelters have served us well, the future will include above-ground shelters as well.
Texas Tech National Wind Institute Engineer and Architect Larry Tanner was one of the thousand or so participants in the Third Annual National Tornado Summit at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
Tanner said above ground shelters are becoming more popular, partly because they can be used all the time.
He said for those who don't have a storm shelter, if bad weather approaches, you can do one thing to help protect yourself and your home.
"You keep that garage door closed, and chances are you will keep most of your house," Tanner said.
