The bad condition of the County Line Road that divides Oklahoma and Canadian County is getting attention.
Building construction nearby caused a detour, which has funneled heavy trucks onto County Line Road at 178th St., and has done a lot of damage. The town of Piedmont maintains the east side of the road. Oklahoma County is responsible for the West side.
Oklahoma County has done their part. Piedmont City Manager Jim Crosby says he asked Oklahoma County to fix the west side too, with the understanding Piedmont would pay Oklahoma County back. However, state law forbids that. Oklahoma County Commissioner Ray Vaughn says the law should be changed.
"I have requested that the legislature do an interim study on this subject because it's impractical," he said.
Crosby says his crews have been hard at it repairing Piedmont's side of the road. And they should be completely finished by early next week.
"We're a new city in the road repair business, because we've only got six thousand in population," he said.
