Seattle TV Station Refers To OKC Thunder As 'Former Sonics'

A Seattle TV station proves the city is still bitter about losing its basketball team.

KIRO TV, the CBS affiliate in Seattle, has promised its viewers they will not say the words "Oklahoma City" or "Thunder" during its coverage of the NBA playoffs.

KIRO posted this statement on its website,

"The former Seattle SuperSonics are in the NBA playoffs. Throughout their run, KIRO 7 promises you we won't say OKC or their team name in our newscasts."

Instead, the team is being referred to as "the former Sonics," and you can see that on the lower third graphics in a screen shot taken from one of their recent newscasts.

Gene Carroll said: "They didn't support them when they were there! Should have thought about that then. Who cares what they say or think! They are the OKC Thunder now and the State of Oklahoma is in full support and love for their team!"

Rhonda Patterson Tomlinson said: "Their owners Sold the team, because of poor support from the city/state. Ya sure can't say that about Oklahoma!! And you wonder why today's children act the way they do, when they have these kind of adults as role models! THUNDER UP."

Kamrynn Gravitt said: "The thunder is now our basketball family! They bring happiness and loudness to OKC. That is why we are called LOUD CITY. Seattle needs to get over it. It is our team now. Besides they have an NFL team!"
