A driver crashed her van into a pizza parlor in northwest Oklahoma City, Monday night, causing the building to collapse and killing a man standing nearby, according to Oklahoma City police.

First responders were called to the Pizza Planet, located near NW 16th St. and May Ave.,  just before 10:30 p.m.

According to Oklahoma City police, the driver of the van, 27-year-old Ashley Bassham, was going south on May approaching N.W. 16th when she dropped her phone. As Bassham attempted to pick up her phone, she drifted out of her lane and traveled through the intersection, hitting the southwest curb of N.W. 16th and May.

Police said Bassham continued through the parking lot and crashed into the pizza parlor, causing the front of the building to collapse.

The wall and bricks then landed on a man, who was standing next to his car in front of the business. He died from his injuries, according to police.

Police have identified the man as 46-year-old Michael Ray Youngs.

The business sustained a lot of damage in the crash, but a preliminary estimate has not been released.

Bassham was not arrested. Police say the crash is still under investigation.
