A suspected killer is in custody after a man and woman were shot in a Tulsa neighborhood. Isaac Ashton was interviewed all evening by detectives and just before 9:00 Monday night, he left Tulsa Police headquarters on his way to jail.

A phone call tipped police off to the suspected shooter's whereabouts. Police said Ashton gave his address when he called a family member asking for a ride, which led investigators right to him.

Tulsa Police, Jenks Police and members of the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force surrounded a car in a Jenks neighborhood Monday.

In that car, they believed was Ashton, who allegedly killed a 21-year-old Tulsa man and left a 22-year-old woman close to death.

“You got to witness what we go through, pretty quick, when things are rapidly evolving,” said Sergeant Dave Walker with Tulsa Police.

Police found the two victims near the Oak Park Townhomes. Neighbors claim they heard three shots and many ran to help.

“I went over there to her and she had blood coming out of her nose, her mouth, her left eye,” said Telisha Reynolds. “I kept telling her to take deep breaths and to stay calm and there was help on the way.”

Investigators said neighbors reported seeing a Honda SUV leaving and that is how they tracked down Ashton.

“The people that live there, obviously they didn't hide and say ‘I didn't see anything.' They were able to come forward and give us the info we needed,” Walker said.

After locating the car and staking out the neighborhood, police said Ashton changed vehicles and tried to leave the area; but he didn't get far.

“We like it when we can make an arrest within the hour so that we don't have to keep this thing ongoing. That's what we found, that if you can get on it, work real hard at the beginning, your chances of make an arrest increase and you saw it here today,” said Walker.

We checked on some of Ashton's previous run-ins with the law; in 2011 he pleaded guilty to transporting a loaded firearm and there is also a pending bench warrant from 2012 for possession of a controlled drug with the intent to distribute.
