An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been fired from the force for policy violations, the agency says.

Sheldon Robinson, 45, had been on administrative leave since shooting and killing 25-year-old Michael Swatosh in September 2013.

The shooting took place over Labor Day Weekend last year at the Best Budget Inn near Admiral and Sheridan in Tulsa. Authorities say Robinson saw Swatosh and another man with guns at the hotel. Robinson said he felt "threatened at some point,” and that is when he fired at Swatosh about 1 a.m.

The Tulsa County District Attorney declined to file charges in that case.

OHP did not specify which policies Robinson violated ahead of his termination.

Robinson was a 16-year veteran of Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
