The Oklahoma City Fire Department and the hazardous material team contained a chemical spill in northwest Oklahoma City, Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to after receiving calls from residents saying they were experiencing a burning sensation in their eyes and noticed an acrid smell near NW 39th and Drexel Boulevard.
Fire officials on scene said the substance smelled like paint thinner and was coming from the dock area of Ra-Nav Labs.
Crews were not sure of the exact substance. "It looks like it may be some kind of thinner, or maybe some aviation fuel, or some kind of alcohol-type substance," said Major Pat King with the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Experts tested the water in drainage ditches to check if the chemicals had entered the water.
At 11:50, crews said it was no longer a threat to residents, and they had the chemical contained to the loading dock area.
