American Airlines passengers flying in and out of Tulsa International Airport began using the newly renovated gate area of Concourse 'A' Wednesday.

Officials say the renovations are part of a $30.6 million project to modernize the concourse.

Passengers will see new seating with fully integrated power charging stations and the concourse ceilings have also been raised and a skylight added to decrease the airport's energy consumption like on Concourse 'B'.

Airports Director, Jeff Mulder, believes the renovations will elevate the overall impression visitors have of Tulsa.

“The airport terminal provides the first and last opportunity to impact a visitor's perception of our City. The concourse renovations allow us to greatly enhance our passengers' experience while improving the operational efficiency of our facility," said Jeff Mulder.

Work now begins on the second half of Concourse 'A'. When completed next summer, Delta Airlines and Allegient Air will join American on Concourse 'A'.  Southwest and United Airlines operate out of Concourse 'B' where a renovation project was completed in 2013.

Airport officials say the projects are funded by passenger facility charges of $4.50 per ticket that are added to every departing ticket from Tulsa International Airport.
