The International Finals Rodeo 45 is set to be in Oklahoma City January 16-18, at Jim Norick State Fair Arena. The first event begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
After a six-year hiatus, Jet McCoy, of Ada, Oklahoma, returns in bronc riding. The five-time champion will be competing alongside his wife Ashlee, a first-time IFR qualifier in breakaway roping.
“For me, going back to riding broncs now and having a chance to go back to the IFR, it's still all about Ashlee. I'm just thankful that I'm still healthy enough and still ride bucking horses so I can be part of the beginning of her career,” said McCoy.
Shawn Minor, 21- time International Professional Rodeo Association World Champion, of from Camden, Ohio will be defending his title at the rodeo. It will be Minor's 12th appearance.
“A lot of people told me I couldn't make a living rodeoing, and I set out to prove them wrong,” said Minor, 39, who first qualified for the IFR in his late 20s. “I never set out to win world titles. I just wanted to be known as a good cowboy, in the arena and out.”
