A driver has died at the hospital from injuries sustained in a crash in Norman, Oklahoma, Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred just after 1:40 p.m., when the Norman Police Department responded to a reported injury collision at 36th Ave Northwest near Barwick Drive.
Early investigation of the crash indicated that a car traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane and exited the roadway. The vehicle continued north until it hit a utility pole, then traveled northeast across all lanes of 36th Ave Northwest, and rested off the roadway.
The driver was transported to a local hospital where he later died of injuries sustained in the accident. The identity of the person is being withheld pending further notifications of the family.
No other persons or vehicles were involved in the collision.
As a result of the crash a portion of the roadway in the area was closed for over two hours while the scene was investigated. One lane of southbound traffic on 36th Ave Northwest will remain closed for an extended time while utility crews make additional repairs to damaged utilities.
The crash is still under investigation.
