The Woodward County Emergency Manager has issued an evacuation advisory for an area of northeast Woodward County as crews work to get a handle on a wildfire burning thousands of acres nearby.

The fire has grown to 15 miles long and between one and two miles wide near the towns of Freedom and Mooreland, Okla.

The fire is located one mile west of State Highway 50 and about 11 miles north of Mooreland, in rural Woodward County and is being driven in the direction of Woods County.

At 8 p.m. Monday, OHP reported the fire had burned about 23,000 acres.

OHP also reported State Highway 50 northbound going into Freedom may be closed for the remainder of Monday night.

A total of 35 fire departments from Oklahoma and Kansas worked this wildfire at one point and the Department of Forestry provided air support.

No lived-in structures have burned at this time. NW Electric replaced two poles and lots of wire at the scene of the fire.

The choppers assisting with the firefight left the scene Monday evening. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
