Alligator Sightings On Lake Texoma

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released photos of alligators sighted over the years at Lake Texoma, including a recent sighting.

Several business operators at the lake which straddles the Oklahoma and Texas state line have seen them too.

Corps of Engineers Environmental Specialist Paul Balkenbush told KXII, the CBS affiliate in Sherman, Texas he's also seen them. 

"I've been fortunate to see them, they're not that common so you don't see them that often and you have to be in right habitat to see them," Balkenbush said. 

He says they are very reclusive.  

"Alligators should be treated with respect," Balkenbush said.

The Corps says it's against the law to kill an alligator, and to contact your local game warden if you see one. 

"The lake is a man-made impoundment, but it's fed by natural rivers," Balkenbush said.
