It looks like a former Oklahoma prep star and son of OSU legend is returning home, as Barry J. Sanders announced on his Twitter account that he'll be transferring to Oklahoma State for his final year of eligibility. He'll be able to join the Cowboys in June following his graduation from Stanford.
The Sanders transfer should bring some promise to a Cowboy backfield that was clearly the weakness of the offense last season and ranked No. 110 nationally in rushing yards per game (132.2). Chris Carson, Rennie Childs and Jeff Carr will also be back next season to compete for carries in the OSU backfield.
Sanders rushed for 315 yards and four touchdowns last season at Stanford in a back up role. It's not a stretch to say he probably would've seen more playing time on plenty of other teams, but with Heisman finalist Christian McCaffrey also on the roster it's hard to get a lot of touches or opportunities.
Sanders totaled 3,825 yards in his high school career at Heritage Hall, while finding the end zone 68 times in his four years as a Charger. He was ranked the No. 9 running back in the 2012 recruiting class according to Rivals and held offers from other schools such as Alabama, Auburn and Florida State.
