Two massive MAPS 3 projects are nearing completion in the Oklahoma City area. City leaders say the $46-million Riversport Rapids Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking Center will be ready for its first scheduled race of the season the weekend of May 6.
Over at the State Fairgrounds, work continues on the $32-million new Expo Center. That facility will feature more than 200,000 square feet of floor space Fairgrounds Subcommittee Chairman Bob Nelon says will allow OKC to compete for major events nationally.
“We will have the space equivalent to most of the major cities across the country,” said Nelon.
The Expo Center the city says should be ready by September. Both MAPS projects are funded by a one-cent limited-time sales tax that was passed by city council back in 2009.
